You can run a Nespresso pod through twice, but you shouldn't expect much from the second cup. Capsules are designed for a single use: the great majority of the coffee's flavour and caffeine comes out on the first brew. Run the same pod again and you get a weak, watery cup that often tastes bitter, because the little that's left over-extracts. If you're trying to save money or cut waste, a refillable capsule does it far better.
A Nespresso capsule is dosed for one extraction. By the time the first cup is done, roughly 95% of what the grounds have to give — the soluble flavour compounds and most of the caffeine — is already in your cup. Brew the same pod again and:
The machine won't stop you, and nothing is damaged by trying — the result is just disappointing.
If the reason you want to reuse a pod is cost or sustainability, a refillable capsule solves both properly. You fill it with your own ground coffee, brew a proper full-strength cup, and reuse the capsule for years.
